Top U.S. Consumer Data Providers in 2026

The main U.S. consumer data providers in 2026 are Experian, Acxiom, Epsilon, TransUnion, Data Axle, Speedeon, AnalyticsIQ, Alesco, Infutor, Melissa and GSDSI. Experian, Acxiom, Epsilon and TransUnion pair data with activation platforms. Speedeon, Alesco and GSDSI license files or feeds. Compare scale only in the same unit, then test match rate on your own records.

How to use this article

Read the checklist here, then use the linked hub and product pages for procurement citations.

People searching for consumer data providers usually want names, so this guide starts with eleven. Each provider is described from its own public pages or its own newsroom, and each sourced fact links to where it came from. GSDSI licenses a U.S. consumer file, so read this as a vendor's guide: neither the list nor its order is a ranking. The two questions that separate these companies are how the data reaches you (a platform, a licensed file or an API) and what the provider says about privacy and permitted use.

Top U.S. consumer data providers in 2026, compared

Each row below uses the provider's own public pages. Scale is shown exactly as each provider states it. Where we did not find something, the cell says "Not found on the pages we checked" rather than guessing. GSDSI appears as one option, described only from what our own Consumer Data File page publishes. The facts were compiled on October 2, 2026, and a provider's page may have changed since.

Read the scale column with care. Experian and TransUnion state households and individuals or adults, Acxiom states consumers, Data Axle states consumers, Alesco states consumers and addresses, Melissa states households, and Infutor states consumers and addresses. TransUnion's figure is from January 2024 and the others carry no date. A bigger number does not mean a better match to your customers; see why vendor match rates are not comparable.

Three ways to get consumer data, and why it matters

  • Through a provider's platform. Experian, Acxiom, Epsilon and TransUnion describe activation through their own platforms and partners. You usually receive an audience, not rows.
  • As a licensed file or feed. Speedeon, Alesco and GSDSI describe licensed files or feeds. You hold the rows, so you also hold the duties that come with them, including suppression and opt-out handling.
  • By API. Data Axle and Infutor describe API access, suited to enriching a record at the moment you capture it.

GSDSI sits in the file group as a licensor. Buyers often pair the Consumer Data File with the Core Email File when they need postal and email records together, and with B2B contact data when the audience is also a business buyer.

How to choose a consumer data provider by job to be done

  • Direct mail and postal campaigns: a licensed file with standardized addresses, from Speedeon, Alesco or GSDSI. Ask for suppression files and delivery cadence.
  • Onboarding a CRM list to digital channels: a provider with hashed-email onboarding and partner activation. See audience targeting.
  • Modeling and enrichment: a file with many attributes, tested for match rate and fill rate on your own customers.
  • Staying inside one platform: if you already work with one of the platform providers above, ask what that provider offers before you add a second source.

Methodology and sources

GSDSI licenses a consumer file, so we have an interest in this category; the table is a list, not a ranking. The facts were compiled on October 2, 2026 from each provider's own public pages. Each fact links to the page it came from and is written as that provider's claim. We did not test or verify any provider's data. Where one provider's own pages gave different figures for the same thing, we cite only the figure on its product page. Corrections are welcome through the contact page.

Two points shape how a careful buyer handles a consumer file. First, marketing data and eligibility data are different things. In May 2013 the FTC warned data brokers that sell information used for decisions on creditworthiness, eligibility for insurance or suitability for employment that they are considered consumer reporting agencies under the FCRA. Our guide to FCRA and non-FCRA data explains where the line sits.

Second, data broker rules are changing. The California Privacy Protection Agency states that, beginning August 1, 2026, data brokers must access the accessible deletion mechanism at least once every 45 days and process consumer deletion requests, subject to limited exceptions. For the states with registration laws, see our data broker registration tracker. This is general information, not legal advice.

What to ask every consumer data provider

Consumer data provider evaluation criteria
CriterionWhat to askWhy it matters
Access modelDo I receive rows, an audience, or an API response? It decides who holds the data and who carries the compliance duties
Unit and date of scaleIs the figure individuals, households, consumers or addresses, and as of when?Figures in different units cannot be compared
SourcesWhich sources feed each attribute, and how are they refreshed?Fill rate and freshness differ by attribute
Match rate on my dataWhat share of my sample matched, and which fields filled?Coverage claims only matter where they overlap your customers
Permitted useIs the file limited to marketing, and what is excluded?Eligibility decisions need different data and different duties
Opt-out and deletionHow do suppression and deletion reach delivered files?Delivered rows become your responsibility
RegistrationIs the provider registered where a data broker law applies?A registry entry is a quick diligence check

Test design: measure match rate before you sign

  1. Pull a sample of your own customer records with known outcomes.
  2. Send the same sample to every finalist under the same rules, as described in seed-match testing.
  3. Score match rate, fill rate for the fields you will use, and the share of records that look current.
  4. Check a slice by hand against data you trust to estimate false matches.
  5. Write the scoring weights down before the files arrive.

Our non-FCRA use cases checklist covers the permitted-use side of the contract, and the sourcing methodology explains how GSDSI builds its own files.

Where GSDSI fits

GSDSI licenses 301M+ U.S. consumer records across all 50 states, with demographics, lifestyle segments, purchase-propensity models and life-event signals where available, for non-FCRA marketing use only. Delivery is by CSV, JSON, Parquet or API, and hashed email is available for privacy-safe onboarding. Request a sample from the Consumer Data File page and test it beside the others.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the top U.S. consumer data providers in 2026?
On the pages we checked: Experian, Acxiom, Epsilon and TransUnion pair consumer data with activation platforms; Speedeon, Alesco and GSDSI describe licensed files or feeds; Data Axle and Infutor describe API access; Melissa describes household and demographic data; AnalyticsIQ describes a consumer marketing database.
What is a consumer data provider?
A company that compiles information about individuals and households, such as demographics, interests and purchase signals, and licenses it to marketers. Some deliver a file, some an API and some an audience inside their own platform.
Which providers license a file rather than a platform?
Among the providers compared here, Speedeon and Alesco describe licensed files, Data Axle describes several delivery routes including APIs and marketplaces, and GSDSI licenses a file directly. Experian, Acxiom, Epsilon and TransUnion describe activation through their platforms and partners.
Is consumer data the same as credit data?
No. Marketing data and data used for credit, insurance or employment decisions are treated differently under the FCRA. The FTC has said that sellers of eligibility data can be consumer reporting agencies. Keep the uses apart in your contract. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do data brokers have to register?
Several states require it. Acxiom and Speedeon state on their own sites that they are data brokers under Texas law, and California's deletion mechanism applies to data brokers from August 1, 2026. See our data broker registration tracker. This is general information, not legal advice.
How should I test a consumer data provider?
Send every finalist the same sample of your own customer records, then score match rate, fill rate for the fields you will use, and recency. Agree the weights before the files arrive.
Where does GSDSI fit among consumer data providers?
In the licensed-file group. GSDSI licenses 301M+ U.S. consumer records across all 50 states for non-FCRA marketing use, delivered as CSV, JSON, Parquet or API. Request a sample from the Consumer Data File page and test it beside the others.
